What do students study?
The Business Studies A Level course gives students the opportunity to gain both a broad understanding of Applied Business principles and the opportunity to focus on a specific pathway such as Marketing, Finance, Human Resources or Management. In addition, the qualification covers a mixture of teaching and learning experiences, from the theoretical through to those with a clear problem solving emphasis.
In Year 12, students study the following topics:
Unit 1: Studying the business world
Unit 2: People at work
Unit 3: Financial Planning and monitoring
In Year 13, students study the following topics:
Unit 4: Business Planning
Unit 5: Marketing Strategy
Unit 6: Financial Planning for Managers
How are students assessed?
The examination board is AQA.
Students are required to undertake a number of practical assignments covering a range of business-related topics.
AS Level: Students are required to submit two pieces of coursework for Units 1 and 2, accounting for 66% of the final marks. Students also sit one (one hour) written examination at the end of Year 12 accounting for 33% of the final mark.
A2 Level: Students are required to submit another two pieces of coursework for Units 4 and 5, accounting for 66% of the final mark. In addition, students sit one 90 minute written exam at the end of Year 13.
