BTEC qualifications are work-related qualifications, available in a wide range of subjects often relating to a particular sector or industry. Many have been designed in collaboration with industry, so they equip students with relevant skills and knowledge required by employers.
BTEC qualifications offer a mix of theory and practice and can also include an element of work experience. The course is a one year course.
How you will be assessed
Generally, students are assessed by their teacher or trainer in their place of study. Students will complete a range of assignments, case studies and practical activities, as well as a portfolio of evidence that shows the work they have completed.
BTec Diploma qualifications are graded at three levels:
A ‘Pass’ or above in a BTEC Diploma is equivalent to four A*-C grade GCSEs and can form the platform for taking Level 3 courses, such as AS and A Levels.
BTEC Diplomas are currently offered in:

In Year 11, most students take GCSEs which (at A*-C grade) count as Level 2 qualifications.
AS and A Levels are Level 3 qualifications and form the platform for reaching Level 4 Honours Degrees.
