A Level Results 2021
A message from Mrs Parsons, Principal:
Today we are celebrating the success of our Year 13 cohort with the publication of this year’s A level and BTEC results. This remarkable group of young people have been a credit to themselves and Sidmouth College not only during the last year of the pandemic but during their seven-year journey at Sidmouth College. The qualities that they have shown, commitment to their studies, positive attitudes to their learning, resilience, determination to succeed, support for each other, and desire to aim high, have meant that they are today finally able to see the rewards of this hard work. We were devastated that our students were unable to sit their final exams and missed out on the opportunity to showcase their knowledge and skills within the formal examinations. The results that our students have received today are a true reflection of their potential and should now be celebrated.
The generation of teacher assessed grades is one that was carried out with a high level of rigour, integrity and accountability, based on high quality evidence from assessments with a thorough quality assurance moderation process. As a College we were confident that our teacher assessed grades were accurate and reflected the ability of each individual student.
The importance of these results is to provide options and opportunities for all students to further their education or training. We work hard at Sidmouth College to foster a lifelong love of learning in all of our students and we are pleased that so many of them are continuing to further their education. A large percentage of students will be moving onto university, some of which include, York, Swansea, Cardiff, Bangor, Leeds and Plymouth.
I would like to thank all of the staff at the College for their continued dedication to our students, the high-quality teaching, learning and support that they have provided has enabled our students to be successful today, I would also like to thank our parent community who have worked alongside us in partnership over the last five years. My final thank you goes to Mrs Sue Hurley (Head of Sixth Form) & Jacqui Barrett (Sixth Form Administrator) who have worked incredibly closely with the year group during this pivotal year providing ongoing support and guidance.
This year group achieved the College’s best GCSE results two years ago and have continued that success at A level. As with any year of results there are some individual successes that need to be highlighted:
Harriet Wardrop, Max Lomas and Emily Hadfield all achieved 3 x A* grades.
Harriet and Emily are both off to Cardiff to study Medicine.
Max Lomas is going to Leeds to study Finance.
Molly Harmson who achieved A* and 2 A grades and is moving onto Gloucester University to study Photography, Editorial and Advertising.
Harvey Charlesworth who is going to York to study Economics, using his A* in Business Studies A level.
Steph Trevena achieved A* and 2 A grades and is going to Falmouth to study creative writing.
India Sudlow achieved 2A* and is moving on to university in London to study Photography.
A message from Mrs Hurley (Head of Sixth Form):
This have been an outstanding year group who thoroughly deserved the success that they have achieved. They never complained and completed all of the assessments that were asked of them, demonstrating a resilience which will serve them well in the future. In addition to their academic studies, the year group have also, where possible, been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities which have shown the all-round employability skills that they possess. They have been a credit to themselves, their parents and the Sidmouth College Community as a whole. I will miss them all and look forwarding to catching up in December to have the ‘Prom’ that we were not able to have.
