Why choose Sidmouth College?
Our ethos & values

Believe, Inspire, Succeed

Our Ethos:
  • Every learner believes and succeeds in fulfilling their potential and is inspired to lead a happy, healthy and successful life within a challenging and rapidly changing world.
  • All learners have access to inspirational teaching that leads to outstanding learning and achievements which continues beyond the classroom.
  • All learners have access to a high quality, relevant and appropriate curriculum that fully meets their needs and supports an engaging and inspiring learning experience.
  • We inspire learners to believe in the contribution they can make to their learning, the College and the wider community. Learners take responsibility and develop resilience throughout their learning journey with clear support and guidance.
  • All levels of leadership are focused on providing a vision, direction and culture in which all are inspired to believe and succeed.
We are a Good school
Sidmouth College puts students first, has effective learning at the heart of all it does and promotes a climate of success and achievement for every student. We have a passion for, and a commitment to, the core purpose of education and focus relentlessly on each student’s right to the very best provision.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection took place in October 2016 and confirmed that we are a ‘Good’ school with examples of outstanding practices. However, we are not complacent and continue to move towards our goal of becoming a centre of excellence for the education of 11-19 year olds.

We have fantastic facilities
The College buildings sit within an attractive 13.37 acre campus in the beautiful Sid Valley and staff take every opportunity to make use of the natural environment on our doorstep to support students’ learning and creativity.

We have excellent sports facilities within our grounds, including extensive grass and all-weather playing fields, and our students also benefit from use of the gym, sports hall and squash courts at Sidmouth Leisure Centre next door.

Our technology facilities, resources and expertise are also excellent, supporting students’ learning and equipping them with the practical skills, knowledge and experience they will need for further education and/or work.

Students achieve well
Learning is an adventure to be enjoyed; a journey that stretches, challenges and opens minds. We have high aspirations for all our students and our highly skilled and enthusiastic staff will encourage your child to have strong ambitions and work hard to achieve these.

We provide a caring and supportive community
Care, guidance and support are strengths of the school.  We work hard to give new students a smooth, positive transition to secondary school life and each student benefits from a dedicated support network throughout their time at the College.  This includes a form tutor and Head of Year, backed up by an extremely strong Student Support and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator who ensure that students have the full range of support and help they need to access the curriculum and make good progress.

We have high standards and expectations
We have a clearly defined strategy for raising expectations and improving standards. Respect and consideration are the watchwords for the way we expect our students to treat each other and staff. Good behaviour is rewarded. Bad behaviour is not tolerated. Clear policies and sanctions exist and are acted upon to ensure that every child feels safe and secure.

We offer an exciting & varied range of activities beyond the classroom
Whatever your child’s skills and interests, Sidmouth College has a great deal to offer. We offer a wide programme of interesting, fun and educational activities which extend the curriculum and give all our students additional opportunities to widen their interests and succeed in new hobbies and experiences. From trampolining to music concerts, and from drama productions to Duke of Edinburgh, the wide range of activities on offer provides our students with many opportunities to learn new skills and gain valuable life experiences.
