Transition Information
Information for Year 6 Students
Our aims
- To help Year 6 students feel confident, reassured and excited about joining Sidmouth College
- To support parents by providing clear information throughout the transition process
- To work closely with primary schools to ensure we understand and support every student joining us in September.
At Sidmouth College, we believe that a successful transition into Year 7 is one of the most important stages in a child’s education. We want every student to feel known, supported and fully prepared for College life from the very beginning.
We also believe that strong communication with families is essential. To help parents and students feel informed and confident throughout the process, we have outlined the transition timeline below.
Transition into Year 7

Our welcome pack will be sent out by email and you should also expect a message via the post. We send this pack to all parents of year 6 children who have been offered places at Sidmouth College for September.
You will receive the following;
- Welcome letter from the Headteacher
- A link to our My Child At School App, to complete the admissions information required about your child

March - May 2026
Transition Team meetings with primary schools
The Transition team at Sidmouth College will be meeting with primary schools to discuss all students who will be joining Sidmouth College that September. During this time we will visit students to answer any questions they might have.
Students will also have the opportunity to discuss friendship groups with us. We suggest parents discuss this with their child to encourage positive choices. A google form will be sent to parents shortly after the Year 6 SATS to signal your child’s friendship choice(s). We aim to accommodate one friend pairing. We always try to accommodate requests but due to other factors this isn’t always possible and will only apply to tutor groups and not teaching groups.
We will make every effort to ensure siblings are placed in the same house group.
June 2026
You will receive an invitation to Transition Evening and Days.
A letter will be sent to all parents who have accepted a place for their child at Sidmouth College inviting them to our Transition Evening and providing information about Transition Days.
This will also include other crucial information that will be required such as:
- Free School Meals Application
- Uniform Policy and Ordering Process
This letter will also let you know which House and Tutor Group your child has been placed in for September.
