FAQs

Can my child do the Bronze Award?

All Year 9 students are invited to take part in the Bronze Award.

Can my child do the Silver Award?

We are currently reintroducing the Silver Award at the College and at the moment only Year 10 students that successfully completed the Silver Award are currently being invited to participate.  Please email dofe@sidmouthcollege.devon.sch.uk if you would like to talk about the Silver Award.

Can my child do the Gold Award?

The Gold Award is open to students attending Sidmouth College Sixth Form.  This is usually started in Year 12 but Year 13 students are able to begin their award with us but it is unlikely they will complete the award before leaving the Sixth Form.

When is the expedition?

The Bronze expedition is usually in late September or early October however expedition dates have not yet been confirmed.  The Silver Expeditions (practice and qualifying) have not been confirmed and it is likely that we will have to work with other Trust Schools to complete the expeditions.  The Gold Expedition usually takes place during Activities Week but again it is likely that we will have to work with other Trust Schools to complete the Gold Expeditions.

How much does the expedition cost?

The Bronze Expedition is low cost (around £20) but it is likely that we will have to hire external qualified people to assist which may increase this cost slightly.  However, students with Free School Meals, Pupil Premium status, EHCPs or Service Children may be able to get funding from a variety of sources.
