Sidmouth College PE kit!

Activity Options:

Activity 1 - The Amazing Writing Project

Do you fancy letting your creative side take over; giving your imagination a chance to soar; and polishing your penmanship? If so then 'The Amazing Writing Project' is just the thing for you. Imagine a week at school like no other. Wild, crazy and magical things seem to be happening wherever you go. Your job will be to record them in a variety of ways for posterity.

Activity 2 - Top Trumps

Ever wondered who you think is the most significant person in History?  Ever considered what event is the most important in History? Now is your opportunity to produce the answers.  We will be offering you, the students, the opportunity to work in pairs to plan and create a set of top trumps.  These will then be used by yourself and others to answer the questions; who or what it the most significant person or event in History.

Activity 3 - The Power of the Media

Do you know that the average person in the UK consumes 9 hours 40 minutes of media every day? The media, unsurprisingly, has a massive influence on what we think and how we behave. Is this good?

In this workshop we will analyse some of the messages the media helps to spread and debate whether the media needs to be thought about differently.

You will then get the opportunity to creatively explore what we have learnt through creating copies of existing media texts and changing one or more elements of an existing media text to create media with a new meaning.

Activity 4 - Dragons Den Bake Off

Can you make a speciality loaf of bread and win over the dragons?
Come and join us at the Sidmouth College Bakery (room 48) where you will be challenged to make a loaf of your choice and pitch it to the panel of Dragons.  Which loaf will they choose to invest in?
  • Design, make, knead, prove and bake your bread loaf
  • Prepare your marketing materials – create a logo and 'unique selling point'
  • Could your loaf win the backing of the panel and you a prize?

If you sign up you will need to bring:
  • Ingredients (basic recipe sheet will be forwarded to you)
  • An apron
  • Your creativity and enthusiasm

Activity 5 - Rocket Power

Explore the science of space by designing, building, and launching model rockets with STOMP power. Then construct your own unique landing module to safely return a “precious cargo” from the cold depths of space back to the Earth. With some quizzes and an auction in between, come and enjoy a morning/afternoon of Space Physics – and relax! It is not rocket science!…oh wait…

Activity 6 - Marble Run Challenge

Can you work as a team to design the best marble run from everyday objects? Use your design skills to build a working marble run. Test and improve your design to make your marble run last the longest. Extra prizes for the most creative designs.

Activity 7 - WHODUNNIT!?

Come along to a Drama workshop with Miss Collins and have fun taking part in warm up activities, exploring different styles of performance before solving the mystery of the century!
A crime scene will be laid out for you to explore with your group, and you will have to decide ‘Whodunnit’!!!
You will then use your amazing acting skills to show us what really took place and who the villain is!!
Come and join in what promises to be a great session for all those who love being dramatic!!

Activity 8 - Recording Studio Driving Licence

Students who are interested in exploring the skills required to record or mix a multitrack session in the studio will learn:
  • The theory behind how microphones work and how analogue audio is digitised and recorded
  • How to setup a multi-microphone session by close-micing and recording a drumkit
  • How to mix  a multi-microphone session using dynamic processing and EQ.

Who is this suitable for?
  • Students who are interested in sound engineering or audio production
  • Those who have an interest in the technology and science behind recording and music production
  • Those who have no problem self-identifying as a bit of a geek!

Activity 9 - Light graffiti workshop

You will be introduced to the manual settings on a DSLR camera and experiment with light as a drawing medium. Take home your own printed and edited light drawing through both individual and collaborative exploration.
