16-19 Funding
Statement to support 16 to 19 transition funding.
Sidmouth College is committed to the support of disadvantaged students whose learning has been disrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak which happened during the 2019 to 2020 academic year.
Sixth Form students, at Sidmouth College, who have not achieved at least a grade 4 in Maths and English will be highlighted as our priority group. The needs of this group will be paramount and will form the focus for the small group tuition that they will be receiving. The maximum group size will be five within both the year 12 and Year 13 year group at Sidmouth College. This is because research has shown that small group tuition is more effective than larger groups.
Students, within this focused group, will receive both academic support and mentoring. Academically, they will be taught both GCSE English and GCSE Maths, within small teaching groups, in order to help them prepare for their forthcoming resit examinations. Tailored support will be given to them on the basis of the grades that they achieved in the summer assessment period.
In addition, the students will also be mentored to help to prepare them for their future studies, following a long period of absence from school. In groups of 5, students will be involved in a programme which draws together current thinking from psychology, business and sport to inspire, motivate and support students ensuring that they achieve their full potential. It aims to discover common behaviours and characteristics that the students will need to be successful. The programme suggests that there are five key components to success which can be measured and developed in all students. These components include: Vision, Effort, Systems, Progress and Attitude. Students will be given support to help them develop these characteristics and ensure a smooth transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5. The use of funding and direct costs will be recorded and evaluated regularly.
