Homework
Homework is an essential part of the teaching and learning process and supports students’ progress. Homework is significant because it teaches responsibility and helps students develop good study habits. In addition, homework helps to improve students’ long-term memory and better prepares them for the demands of public examinations.
Homework Expectations
The following represents the minimum expectations of frequency of setting homework in each Key Stage.
At Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9):
Core subjects (English, Maths and Science): minimum of 1 piece a fortnight.
Non-core: minimum of 2 pieces a half term.
At Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11):
Core Subjects (English, Maths and Science) – Weekly
Option Subjects and RE – Fortnightly
At Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13):
Students are set at least two pieces of independent study or homework every week.

Satchel One (formerly Show My Homework) is an easy to use online homework calendar for schools. When teachers set homework this will appear on students personal homework calendar with all the relevant details such as deadlines and resources needed. Students and parents can access this at any time via the web or their mobile phone, making homework accessible for everyone.
