Information for Year 6 Students

TRANSITION RESOURCES
TRANSITION FAQS

Our aims
  • To reassure Year 6 students about their transition to Sidmouth College and to prepare them for College life
  • To support parents and provide them with all the information they need throughout the transition process
  • To gather relevant information from primary schools about each student joining Sidmouth College in September.
We feel that in order to achieve a positive transition, parents should be fully informed about the process; therefore, we have put together a timetable of the process below. At Sidmouth College we believe that it is imperative that Year 6 students have a positive move into Year 7. It is vital that they feel confident and equipped to make the transition into the College at the start of the academic year.

Transition into Year 7

March - May 2023
Transition Team meetings with primary schools

The Transition team at Sidmouth College will be meeting with primary schools to discuss all students who will be joining Sidmouth College that September. During this time we will visit students or meet with them via zoom to answer any questions they might have. Students will also have the opportunity to discuss friendship groups. We suggest parents discuss this with their son/daughter to encourage positive choices.

We aim to accommodate one friend pairing. Siblings we will make every effort to ensure they are placed in the same house group. We always try to accommodate requests but due to other factors this isn’t always possible and will only apply to tutor groups and not teaching groups.

Parent/student social
During the summer term (restrictions permitting) we will arrange a social opportunity for parents of children that may find transition a challenge and an opportunity for students from out of catchment to meet and mingle.

We will provide fun team building games and workshops for students with tea and cakes for the parents. An informal opportunity to chat about uniform, FSM and catering, discuss any concerns you might have and meet key members of staff. Also opportunities to meet the Sidmouth College association (SCA) and see how you might like to get involved.
