Praise and Rewards

Frequent praise and reward is embedded in our teaching and learning at Sidmouth College so students receive recognition for their positive contributions to college life. We believe that every student should have their contribution acknowledged and when appropriate rewarded.

Praise Points

At Sidmouth College students can earn praise points in a number of ways. On a daily basis students have the opportunity to earn stamps in their planners from their class teachers if they:
  • Arrive ready to learn
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Having a consistently good attitude to learning
  • Excellent class work and homework
  • Positive contribution in lessons

Stamps can also be earned during tutor time and for attending extra-curricular clubs and activities. Each week these stamps are accumulated and converted to Praise Points which are added to the student's record.

Praise points are also awarded for contributing to the wider school community, for example representing the College Cricket team, singing in the choir at the Carol Service or where a student has gone ‘above and beyond’.

Parents/Carers can track student's praise points on EdulinkOne via the achievement section.

House Points

At the end of each week each praise points are converted into House points and awarded to the student's House. At the end of each term in a celebration assembly the House with the most points earns the House Cup.
House points can also be earned by representing your house in various competitions that are run throughout the year.

Principal's Commendations

In 2021 the College launched a new award, the Principals Commendations. The award is given to students who have excelled or achieved something above and beyond inside and outside of school. These awards are presented by Mrs Parsons during the end of term celebration assemblies.

Achievement and Celebration Evenings

The College holds annual Achievement evenings to celebrate academic success. This includes a Year 9 Celebration Evening to award students for achievement in Key Stage 3, a GCSE Celebration Evening to reward fantastic GCSE results and finally a PE Awards Evening to recognise achievement in the PE department. These evenings are held in the College Hall and we invite friends and family to join and celebrate our students' outstanding achievements with us.

Reward Trips

Throughout the year the College offers students in each year group with the top 50 praise points the opportunity to go on a rewards trip. These include:
  • Surfing at Bigbury on Sea in Year 7 and 8
  • Water sports at Haven Banks in Year 9
  • Ice skating in Plymouth in Year 10

In year 11 students who meet the praise point threshold are invited to the end of term prom at Woodbury Park.
