Praise and Rewards
At Sidmouth College we have a strong praise system; we aim to provide students with a sense of pride and ownership of their achievements and reward their resilience, participation and growth.
We reward and praise students throughout the academic year in several ways:
Weekly rewards:
Praise emails home will be received from Heads of House, one student will be selected from each year group that has demonstrated excellent conduct for the week previous. The recipient of the Heads of House acknowledgment will also receive a ‘fast track pass’ for lunch line for a week.

Every year 50 students with the highest number of house points from each year group are given the opportunity to take part in a rewards trip. Trips in the past have included ice skating, The Bear Trail, Haven Banks and paddle boarding.

- Teacher commendations - all teaching members of staff will take time to reflect on the half term, the achievements and growth of their students. Staff will send praise emails home for students who have demonstrated excellent conduct, significant personal growth or academic development.
- Head of House and Head of Department commendations – This commendation aims to celebrate students in the topics they thrive in. Achievements within departments will be acknowledged by Head of Departments in a praise assembly, an email home and the awarding of a P3.
- Tutor group non-school uniform day – A non-uniform day is awarded to one tutor group within each house with the highest number of collective house points.
- Attendance awards – students are awarded a P3 and a non-uniform day.
Termly rewards:
- Raffle prizes – Students name is entered into the raffle once for every 50 House points they achieve, the more house points students achieve, the better their chance of winning. Raffle prizes may include, cinema tickets, Amazon vouchers, Highstreet vouchers and fast passes for the lunch line.
- House non-uniform day – The house with the most House points at the end of the term will be awarded a house non-uniform day.
- Principal and Senior Leadership Team Commendations – This commendation is awarded to students who consistently demonstrate the Sidmouth College way, students that have developed exceptionally both academically or personally, a P4 is awarded alongside the commendation.
- Sidmouth College Pride Awards – The Sidmouth College Pride Awards aims to celebrate student’s development and achievement both inside and outside of college. Staff nominate students that have demonstrated the Sidmouth College Way, this could be a sporting achievement, acts of kindness in the community or volunteering as a few examples, a P4 is awarded alongside the commendation.
