Pupil Premium
Free School Meals
We want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can. Healthy school food has obvious health benefits and can help pupils establish healthy habits for life. Healthy school food can also help to improve pupils’ readiness to learn.
Families who receive certain benefits may be eligible for free school meals. Your child is eligible for free school meals if you’re in receipt of one of the following benefits:
This additional money is available from central government for every child whose parent is receiving one of the benefits listed above.
The Government provides schools with a funding allocation called Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) which is additional to main school funding. This funding is provided to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. PPG funding has been based on ‘Ever 6’ FSM, (students who have been entitled to Free School Meals at any time in the last 6 years).
At Sidmouth College we take a tiered approach to Pupil Premium spending. Teaching is our top priority, including professional development, training and support for early career teachers. Good teaching is the most important lever schools have to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. Using the Pupil Premium Grant to improve teaching quality benefits all students and has a particularly positive effect on children eligible for the Pupil Premium.
We use targeted support for struggling pupils; as well as strategies that relate to non-academic factors, including improving attendance, behaviour and social and emotional support. We continue to employ our College Counsellor to provide targeted support for Pupil Premium students with emotional or social problems.
For more information on how the pupil premium grant (PPG) is used at Sidmouth College please click on the strategy document linked below.
If you think your child might be eligible to receive Free School Meals please go to https://www.devon.gov.uk/educationandfamilies/school-information/school-meals or alternatively speak to Mr Davd Herbert for further assistance.
