Assessment
Key Stage 3 (KS3)
The Department of Education reformed the way KS3 is assessed by schools. National Curriculum levels were removed and the challenge was given to schools to develop their own assessment criteria.
The effectiveness and reliability of all assessments at Sidmouth College is paramount. All year groups receive purposeful, accurate and reliable information, which is relevant, meaningful and timely to ensure students make outstanding progress.
At KS3, all departments will report a percentage attainment grade for knowledge-based assessments and summative assessments alongside an average percentage for students in a similar ability group. Knowledge-based assessments test a student’s ability to retain the core knowledge required for the course they are studying. Whereas, summative-based assessments test a student’s ability to apply that knowledge. Feedback is given to students from assessments, identifying individual strengths and areas for development.
Each subject decides how many assessments they will have to fit into their curriculum and each term a report will be sent home to parents.
